a note from photographer Stephen Austin Welch

We get it. It’s miscellaneous out there. Yet, we are stronger than ever and even more on your side. my note continues below

mood boards:
I have been creating mood boards for ad agencies and designers for quite some time. I have found that it is a great tool to help us partner up and visualize how I interpret your photo project. AND a mood board is an outstanding tool to help us explain to the client not only how we are accomplishing our shots, but why our photographs will convey their brand message.

don’t be shy, just ask:
At times I am asked to create a mood board; at other times, I offer. Don’t be shy, just ask me. It is my pleasure to help make your case—and my goal?, to be awarded the job! Remember, I come from a film background, so the idea of providing a treatment and storyboarding visual solutions is second nature to me.

your custom web portfolio gallery:
I build custom portfolios for my clients all the time! We know that ‘some’ of our photographs are perfect for the client to see, and some are not (it’s the nature of the beast.) It does not hurt our feelings to put together a portfolio of only that which is relevant to the job. It often saves both your time and energy. Your custom portfolio will even have a smart link like this: SAW-ART.com/you.

our shoot strategy:
I am a firm believer that there is more than one way to produce a shoot. I have made it happen. Sometimes I can do a $100,000 job for $10,000 (or $25,000. for $2,500—you get it, just drop a zero.) It all comes down to communication and being true to the concept. I always want to find a way to be your shooter. Always. I love to shoot. It’s who I am. It’s what I do.

another big milestone:
I have been shooting professionally for 15 years. My first big break job was at the age of 21. That shoot was for TBWA\Chiat\Day. Good times!

my most recent work:
I am always shooting. If you read my blog, you know about my PubCam; but besides that I am a photographer, who loves to make photographs. I am continually working on personal photo projects. It is usually my “newest” photograph that is my “favorite.” My current project is shooting monochromatic mod interiors that I am calling “lived in spaces.” Stay tuned...

updated SAW books:
I just revamped my book (my actual printed portfolio.) I added 25% new work from just 6 months ago! This is exciting for me. I understand it is easier (and more affordable) to look at a site than to call in a book; however, no matter how quickly jpegs load, and no matter how you categorize the images on a site, there is nothing more beautiful than a one-foot by two-foot open book on your lap. It speaks volumes.

get in touch:
Thanks for reading. New photographs are both above and below. Just so you know, you can: call me, or call my agent Norman Maslov, or email me, or email my agent, or comment on my blog, or become my facebook friend, or follow me on twitter, or send me a handwritten fan letter. I am open to dialog. We are all in this together. We get it. Now... “Let’s shoot something!”

cheers, Stephen
