One of the things I appreciate most about ‘what I do’ as a visual storyteller with my camera in hand is being invited into the inner sanctum of someone else’s passionate world. As a shooter, the process with the talent I’m filming happens fast, and the intimacy connection is sped up - yet the bond is real. Documentary and portrait work is invigorating to me and will forever be a core inspiration of mine. Here is part one of a new project I was recently hired to shoot showcasing the spirit and artisanship of One House Bakery. Their story is deep and moving. Meet master baker, Chef Hannalee Pervan. She is making waves with her meticulously delicious food - and also her honesty to the press about losing her sense of smell and taste after her bout with Covid. I was humbled and invigorated to craft these images of Chef Hannalee. Capturing her rhythmically zen process of breadmaking was epic. Her heart has not wavered one iota, and she is such an inspiration to me. In a few weeks I’ll share part two of this rewarding project, which will include some tasty outtakes… because, I know I’m a fan of real, spontaneous, offbeat moments and trust you are too. Stay tuned. 🛠, SAW |
